Raising Sand, from Led Zeppelin vet and bluegrass superstar, wins five Grammys on Sunday night.

Alison Krauss and Robert Plant accept the award for Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards on Sunday

"I'm bewildered," Robert Plant said onstage as he accepted the Grammy Album of the Year award with Alison Krauss on Sunday night. "In the old days we would have called this selling out, but it's a good way to spend a Sunday."
He was probably one of the few who were surprised, because Raising Sand, which won five trophies at Sunday night's show, is in many ways the perfect Grammy album. It features two respected veterans, a critically lauded producer, some sandpaper-and-velvet vocals and a baker's dozen of time-tested standards.
You're probably familiar with Robert Plant from his Led Zeppelin days, and you might be aware of producer T-Bone Burnett's work on the "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack (it won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2002). And if you don't know who Alison Krauss is, she possesses a haunting set of pipes and is one of the meanest fiddle players in the world. Oh, and she's won 21 Grammys, more than any other female artist and the seventh-most in history.
Really, she's the key to Sand's success, and not just because of her voice (or her fiddle playing). She and Plant first met in 2004, at a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute to legendary bluesman Leadbelly, and the former Zeppelin man was amazed by her knowledge of American Roots music — so much so that they began kicking around the idea of recording an album together. Three years later, Sand was released.
And while Plant possesses the more famous voice, the album's finest moments radiate from Krauss. Whether she's getting bluesy on Little Milton's "Let Your Loss Be Your Lesson" or entwining with Plant's husky voice on songs like "Please Read the Letter" and Roly Salley's winsome "Killing the Blues," she more than carries her end of the bargain.
And perhaps that's also due to producer Burnett, who handpicked the 13 songs the duo cover on Sand. His arrangements are sparse — giving the two voices ample room to breathe — yet dense, warm and crackling at the same time. It's a testament to his work that he's often given just as much billing as Plant and Krauss on the project ... and it's certainly justified.
To date, Sand has sold more than 1 million copies, heaped tons of acclaim and actually earned a Grammy last year — "Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)" took home the award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.
One expert was surprised not by the album's success, but by the fact that it's actually quite a good album.
"At first, the album seemed like a vanity project. ... Two names, clearly a one-off record, didn't have to be any good, you know?" New York Times music critic Jon Caramanica said. "Led Zeppelin fans would buy it because of Robert Plant, Alison Krauss would get a check. But it actually turned out to be a really thoughtful, really good record. So when you combine all that with the fact that the Grammys love to lionize one of their own, I could really see it taking home some awards."

Madame Tussauds figures will debut in March.

This March, Justin Bieber's wax likeness will be hitting three Madame Tussauds wax museums. Outposts in London, New York and Amsterdam will all house statues of the teen pop sensation. And, since Bieber decided to have his trademark locks lopped off last weekend, fans may be wondering what kind of hairstyle the statues will feature. Well, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the likenesses will in fact sport Bieber's signature swoop.
"We have been absolutely inundated with requests from young fans from around the world to see him," Liz Edwards, head of PR at Madame Tussauds, explained. "We're sure his fans will be just as delighted as we are that Justin will be joining the A-list."
THR further reported that Bieber will be the headlining act at the museum's music zone, an interactive area that also features stars like Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake. It's reported that Bieber sat for his statue late last year.
"We're capturing a moment in time," Bret Pidgeon, general manager of Madame Tussauds New York, told E! News about the statue. "Capturing what he looks like right now."
Pidgeon also hinted about the hair that would appear on the statue. "We're going to wait to see how the new haircut takes with the fans ... It'll be part of the excitement for the final launch day," he added, noting that Bieber will be on hand at one of the unveilings.
Reps for the museum never responded to MTV News' request for further information by press time.
"I'm honored to be getting my own wax figures," Bieber said in a press statement. "To be immortalized in wax alongside some of my idols — Michael Jackson, Prince, Beyonce and my mentor, Usher — is incredibly exciting and very cool."
A long line of other music stars also have had their likenesses cast in wax for display at Madame Tussauds locations. In the past few years, teen idols like the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and even Lady Gaga have all received the honor from the famed institution.
Do plan to visit a Madame Tussauds to check out Justin's wax figure? Let us know in the comments.

Bob Arum irked mixed martial arts followers a few years back when he said the majority of fans were "skinhead white guys."
Even with MMA pay-per-view and arena audiences exploding across the U.S. and the world, Arum still believes MMA's scope is limited.
"It's the same audience over and over," Arum told USA Today. "It's white males, and they have never been able to expand their demographic."
For that reason, the UFC and MMA can only reach certain heights according to Arum.
"The Hispanics don't care anything for it. Most African-Americans don't watch it. Hey, this country is becoming more and more Hispanic, and it's growing African-American (in the) audience," Arum said.
"So the future success of UFC is limited. The success of boxing is not, because boxing reaches those groups. The only demographic that boxing has lost is the white, young males, period."
Arum believes the fight market includes all males and that MMA doesn't draw the eyes of Hispanics and African-Americans. He also hints at the fact that boxing may experience a resurgence if it can mend fences with network television and deliver more of its product for free.
We posted the latest fan video from Strikeforce. The audience at the Izod Center appeared to be pretty diverse.

While Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber were both nominated, they didn't get as much love as some expected.

You hear it all the time: "I'm just thankful to be nominated." It's the gracious and polite thing to say, and artists who lose out on major awards always feel compelled to offer it up.
But what if you never even get nominated?
Every year, there are head-slapping omissions from the roster of nominees at the big awards-fests (Christopher Nolan at the Oscars, anyone?), and this year's 53rd annual Grammy Awards (which take place February 13) are no exception.
In the night's biggest category, Album of the Year, there was plenty of griping from critics about the inclusion of Katy Perry's Teenage Dream, which many considered too lightweight for the night's top prize. But there was also a bit of talk about Justin Bieber's smash My World 2.0 not making it into the mix in the major categories, even if Bieber can lick his wounds with his Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album love.
Though the rules about the Best New Artist category have since been changed to avoid such a problem in the future, Lady Gaga has been the victim of Grammy snubs before. She earned six nominations this year, including coveted Album of the Year for The Fame Monster, but it was mystifying that her huge hit, "Bad Romance," didn't get any Record or Song of the Year nominations.
What gives?
"They want her for ratings, but I think the Grammys are still a bit freaked out by Gaga," said Entertainment Weekly music writer Leah Greenblatt. "There were so many shenanigans about her not being nominated for Best New Artist that I think the Grammys got shamed over that. It's possible they would try to make it up to her by showering her with nominations and I could see her win in major categories [in the future], but I think they're not quite ready for her." That could, of course, change next year when Gaga's Born This Way is in the running.
Another diva used to serious Grammy love, Alicia Keys, was totally shut out for her The Element of Freedom album. "It's interesting that Alicia Keys got nothing," she said. "Her and John Mayer are practically on the ballots every year whether they qualify for eligibility or not. And I think 'Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart' was one of the year's best singles." And reclusive Grammy bait Sade got a pair of notices for her singles "Soldier of Love" and "Babyfather" in the R&B categories but no chance at any of the big prizes. Greenblatt said she was surprised by both snubs, especially since Sade's Soldier of Love album was one of the top sellers of 2010 and because the enigmatic singer had been away for nearly a decade and came back in fine, mature form, the kind of story the Grammys love to honor.
There were some eyebrows raised over the single nomination for "American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert, who had a solid and creatively rich hit album with his debut, For Your Entertainment, but just a single nod for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Whataya Want From Me."
With Perry strutting into a number of top categories thanks to her light-as-air pop confections, it was a wonder that another pop tart with huge digital sales and big chart hits (things the Recording Academy likes to see), Ke$ha, was completely shut out of the game. Greenblatt thought the Lambert dis might fall into the same Gaga territory, with the Academy being a bit freaked out by the singer's out-and-proud persona and over-the-top antics, but when it comes to Ke$ha, she said it's probably a different story. "She had a huge impact, but I think the Grammys think she might go away, and they've chosen not to legitimize her," she speculated.
Speaking of big sales, quite a few people commented on the fact that Train's smash "Hey, Soul Sister," the best-selling single of 2010, got just one notice for a little-heard live version in the Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group category.
A couple of well-respected hip-hop acts were also conspicuously absent from the nominations list, including Outkast's Big Boi, whose acclaimed Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty was left out of the Best Rap Album category, along with Rick Ross, whose Teflon Don got no love. "Rick Ross is the kind of artist made to be ignored by the Grammys," Greenblatt said. "He has a sensibility the Grammys will almost never come around to, no matter how beloved he is by rap fans."
But given that she thought Chico Dusty was one of the best albums of 2010, Greenblatt was stunned by the freeze-out of Big Boi, who has been showered with Grammy love in the past. "It's such an achievement, a fully realized album that feels like a real tapestry, a headphones album from someone whose skills are so singular ... [from] one of the most iconic and Grammy-approved hip-hop acts of all time."
Rihanna's Rated R was also eligible but got stiffed in the major categories, landing just a Best Dance Recording nod for "Only Girl (In the World)" for her single from last year's Loud and a number of notices for her work on Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie." And if you thought Kanye West got ripped off when My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy got blanked, don't worry: It wasn't eligible this year but is in the hunt for next year.
The one omission that seemed to make sense was the two small nominations for the kids from "Glee," who are up for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for their cover of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin' " and for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Glee: Vol. 1. Though they set cash registers ringing like crazy, it's no wonder that actors singing covers didn't garner attention at a show that ostensibly awards creativity. And no one seemed too shocked that Christina Aguilera's poorly received Bionic was ignored.
Who do you think got stiffed by the Grammys? Share your top snubs in the comments.

Shane del Rosario continues to impress. In six of seven previous fights, his crisp standup was on display, but tonight it was his jiu-jitsu that earned him a win as the first alternate in the heavyweight Grand Prix.
Del Rosario and Lavar Johnson slugged it out standing and also worked the clinch game along the cage for control of the fight.
When the Filipino-American decided to take it the ground, Johnson was in big trouble. With just over two minutes left in the first, Del Rosario (11-0) scored a takedown. Almost immediately, he transitioned from side control to the mount. Johnson was underneath del Rosario and had 2:01 to go to reach the end of the round.
Johnson (15-4) did a solid job of avoiding major damage, but did little to extricate himself from the awful position. He allowed del Rosario to slide up his body. With 40 seconds left, del Rosario got on one knee and went for the armbar. Johnson tried to roll, stand and pull out of the hold. The attempt made things worse. Del Rosario fell to his back and yanked on the arm for the finish.
Del Rosario, 27, is a solid prospect and could make it into the main field if there's an injury that knocks one of the eight fighters from the tournament. It may be a little early for del Rosario to step up to that class, but he'd definitely pose some problems for those experienced fighters.

Paul McDonald performs on "American Idol" Wednesday
Photo: FOX
The coolest contestant of season 10's "American Idol" has stepped out in the form of Paul McDonald.
The 25-year-old from Nashville, Tennessee, was voted through to the "Idol" top 24 on Wednesday's (February 23) episode, and his laid-back, easygoing style makes him an early standout among the semi-finalists.
The scruffy-bearded McDonald, who auditioned for "Idol" in his hometown of Nashville, was first seen on Wednesday singing the Beatles' "Blackbird" during the Las Vegas round with his duet partner Kendra Chantelle. McDonald's smooth vocals — which have sort of a Jason Mraz-meets-Mike Posner quality — caused judge Steven Tyler to exclaim, "Yeah! I love his voice," mid-song, while Jennifer Lopez turned to Tyler to show him the goose bumps on her arm. Lopez later praised McDonald's "soft, beautiful tone," saying it "cut right through" and made him stand out.
His voice wasn't the only thing that made McDonald stand out. For his final audition, McDonald sported a white Nudie Suit, complete with embroidered roses and that looked like something out of Jeff Tweedy's closet. Not only that, but he chose to forgo popular logic and sang an original song for his final shot in front of the judges instead of a cover. The guy couldn't blend into the background if he tried.
"I've gotten this far based on, you know, just doin' my thing, and if it's meant to be, it's meant to be," McDonald said in voiceover. It was meant to be: In his final sit-down with the judges, they praised his unique qualities and said while they're not quite sure where he'll land in the competition, it will be those same attributes that could potentially take him far. "We're gonna bank on that and put you through," Lopez told him.
McDonald took the news in stride; raising his arms in victory, he let out a hearty laugh before thanking the judges. And while he said he's spent the last few weeks "relaxin,' hangin' out," now, he admitted he's got some work ahead of him. "I gotta learn some songs!" he said.
While he works on those new songs, his fanbase is already starting to grow. By the end of Wednesday's episode, McDonald was a worldwide trending topic on Twitter, and he already had at least one former "Idol" contestant in his corner. "Paul McDonald is the man," "Idol" season-eight finalist Matt Giraud tweeted. "Really impressed me."
What did you think of Paul McDonald? Let us know in the comments!

Janet Jackson and her boyfriend Wissam Al Mana were spotted leaving dinner last night in Beverly Hills. See candids of the couple inside along with some gorgeous photos of Halle Berry at the 13th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards.
Last night in Beverly Hills, the 13th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Halle Berry looked simply radiant in her Elie Saab Haute Couture gown. Can't remember the last time I saw her in red--GREAT color on her.
During the ceremony, Samuel L. Jackson presented Halle with the Lacoste Spotlight Award.
During the presentation, Samuel told the audience, “My dear friend and colleague. Don’t you love her name? It’s like a stanza of music.”
At the end of the evening, Halle snapped a pic with actress Kristen Davis. Looks like a beautiful night for the beautiful people.
Also in Beverly Hills,
Janet Jackson and her boyfriend, Wissam Al Mana, had dinner at Matsuhisa in Beverly Hills last night.
The paprazzi hounded them and bombarded them with flashes. And Ms. Jackson looked none too happy.
Janet is back in the States after launching her "Number Ones, Up Close and Personal World Tour" in Asia. The North American leg of the tour kicks off on March 7 with three nights in Chicago. Other stops on the tour include Toronto, Boston, New York City, and Washington, D.C.
And this is how Janet and Wissam roll though the Hills.
They make vintage look fab.
