The one-hour preliminary shows before UFC pay-per-views are returning to Spike TV in 2011.
Although the UFC's first pay-per-view of 2011 saw its preliminary card appear on Ion TV, whose demographics are not a good fit with the UFC, Spike has now announced that it has re-upped with the UFC to show 12 prelims, which represents almost all of them for the rest of the year.

UFC NEWS: Tito Ortiz has no intentions of retiring regardless of outcome against Lil Nog at UFC Fight Night 24

Tito Ortiz has not won a fight since October of 2006, and he's entering his headlining bout at UFC Fight Night 24 on his last legs in the UFC. But though he's facing being cut from the organization with a loss to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, he has no intentions of retiring from fighting.
"I'm not getting knocked unconscious. I'm not getting submitted. I'm not getting dominated. I'm losing by decision; I'm losing by draws," Ortiz said, in an interview with MMAJunkie.com. "One-hundred percent [I will continue fighting, regardless of the outcome]. I'm healthy for once. People don't understand the injuries that I've gone through. I've had some serious, serious surgeries, and I went through some serious pain over the last seven years, and I fought through it.
"Now that I'm healthy and I feel good, I want to compete. I want to show the best I possibly can and fight the best guys possible."
Ortiz has no easy task ahead of him in "Lil Nog." Nogueira lost to Ryan Bader in his last fight, and had trouble with Jason Brilz in a razor thin split decision win early last year, but he is still a legitimate top 15 fighter in the division, and represents a very difficult fight for "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy." But Ortiz says this is the fight he wants to take right now.
"I probably could have gotten an easier fight, but I wanted to challenge myself," Ortiz said. "Do I fight someone who I'm supposed to beat, or do I fight someone that's supposed to beat me? I like these terms better."

Penick's Analysis: Ortiz isn't in a spot where there needs to be any type of strong call for him to retire. He's not like his old nemesis Chuck Liddell, who had suffered numerous knockout losses in consecutive fights. He has been competitive in all of his losses over the last four years, and has had a number of injuries hamper what he's been able to do. That said, he hasn't won fights, and if he loses this one the UFC will cut him and it will be absolutely justified. He'll find somewhere else to fight if that's the case, but he certainly won't command the type of money he's received from the UFC in this latest contract.

Demi Lovato Leaves Rehab
Demi Lovato has been released from rehab, where she was undergoing treatment for emotional issues. The 18-year-old actress is back in Los Angeles and is looking to get on with her life.
"She will continue to see doctors in L.A. who will help her work on the issues she confronted in treatment," a source told People.com. "For now, she is getting back to her regular routine and spending time with her family and close friends. She is so grateful to all of her fans for their support, and looks forward to being able to talk to all of them very soon."
As for her Disney show, Sonny With a Chance, well, its future is still up in the air. An insider says, "Demi will continue to focus first and foremost on her well-being."
Lovato went in for treatment in October, after she had a physical fight with backup dancer Alex Welch on The Jonas Brothers World Tour.
Earlier this month, Lovato paid tribute to her fans for having her back through the trying time.
"I want to make sure my fans know how thankful I am for all their love, support and prayers during this difficult time," Lovato wrote on her Facebook page. "Thank you for standing beside me through it all."

On Thursday (January 7), the U.K.'s Royal Mail unveiled a series of 10 new stamps, honoring the most iconic album covers of the past 40 years.
The albums featured in the new series are the Rolling Stones' Let It Bleed, Led Zeppelin's IV, David Bowie's The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells, The Clash's London Calling, New Order's Power, Corruption and Lies, Primal Scream's Screamadelica, Pink Floyd's The Division Bell, Blur's Parklife and — the most recent album on to make the cut — Coldplay's A Rush of Blood to the Head.
Meant to honor "the most potent graphic images of modern times, many of which have provided a visual soundtrack to people's lives," the series is the end result of a lengthy research process by the Royal Mail, who looked through thousands of album covers by British artists before deciding on the final list. And, during a Wednesday night BBC Radio broadcast, it was revealed that the queen herself actually approved each design.
Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page — who helped design the cover for IV — was on hand to celebrate the release of the stamps and recalled the mysterious nature of the album's iconic imagery.
"Almost 40 years after the album came out, nobody knows the old man who featured on the cover, nor the artist who painted him," he said. "That sort of sums up what we wanted to achieve with the album cover, which has remained both anonymous and enigmatic at the same time."
Of course, any great honor is befitting of an equally great contest, so, on the same day the stamps were made available to the general public, Coldplay decided to give one of their Rush of Blood stamps away. In a message on their official site, the band held a contest to send one lucky fan "a letter using a Coldplay stamp, postmarked with today's issue date."
"We visited our local post office earlier today and bought some of the Coldplay stamps," the message read. "Very nice they are too."

UFC NEWS: Mike Brown suffered hand injury in loss to Rani Yahya, undergoing surgery

The new year has not been kind to former WEC Featherweight Champion Mike Thomas Brown. A decision loss to Diego Nunes in his return to the UFC on New Year's Day was compounded by a second consecutive loss to Rani Yahya last weekend at UFC Fight for the Troops 2, and now Brown has suffered an injury out of that fight that will require surgery.
Brown, who has now lost four of his last six fights, took the bout with Yahya on short notice as a late replacement, but was out-worked throughout the fight and lost a unanimous decision. And in that fight, Brown says, he suffered an injury to his right hand.
"Thanks for the continued support," Brown wrote on his official Facebook page. "Wanted to let everyone know that I'm doing fine, but I tore a radial cruciate ligament in my left hand in the first round of the fight. Surgery tomorrow, a crazy month for sure."
Brown didn't mention a timetable on his return, but with consecutive losses he could be at risk of getting cut from the UFC.
Penick's Analysis: It's been an unfortunate and precipitous drop for Brown. Starting with the loss to Jose Aldo late in 2009, Brown has struggled. Though he's picked up two wins since then, his knockout loss to Gamburyan and the consecutive decision losses in his return to the UFC have been disappointing at best, and could lead to the former Champion's dismissal from the UFC. But hopefully he can take this recovery time from hand surgery and get things turned around for himself when he gets back in the cage.

Thanks to the excitement of her Little Monsters everywhere, Lady Gaga released the full "Born This Way" lyrics on Twitter, after teasing her fans with several lyrics earlier in the day.

UFC NEWS: Fight for the Troops 2 a success, Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund trustee believes third event to come in 2012

Saturday's UFC Fight for the Troops 2 event marked another successful fund raiser for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund from the UFC. The event brought in over $600,000 in phone donations during the event alone, with millions more expected online through the UFC's auction and the IFHF home site.
With the original Fight for the Troops event in December 2009, the UFC helped to complete the National Intrepid Center of Excellence by raising nearly $5 million. This year's event is going to help fund the research into traumatic brain injury to which the center is dedicated. IFHF trustee Marty Edelman talked after the event and expects a third event from the UFC in 2012 for the fund.
"Our relationship with Dana White, and Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta, has been both personal and professional and philanthropic for years now," he said in an interview with MMAJunkie.com. "This is 'Fight for the Troops 2,' and you know how each UFC fight has a number? Well, we'll do No. 3 probably next year, and we'll just keep going until all the needs of our young, wonderful warriors and their families are taken care of."
"We determine the need, and so far, we've never failed in raising the money we need," he said. "So we just keep doing it until we have enough. We have about $13 or $14 million for research. We'd like to get to $20 million. And we'll do whatever we need to to get there."
Penick's Analysis: Saturday's event was a very well produced fund-raiser, and though it's slightly counter-intuitive to raise money for traumatic brain injury research with a sport that can cause damage to a competitor's brain, the UFC does a great job with these events. It was a fun night of fights, and helped do a lot of good for this very good cause. The video packages for the soldiers afflicted by TBI from their time in combat were heartbreaking, and that the UFC was able to help bring more money to the research of these injuries was a great thing. A third event in 2012 will be very welcome for all involved.

"Our relationship with Dana White, and Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta, has been both personal and professional and philanthropic for years now," he said in an interview with MMAJunkie.com. "This is 'Fight for the Troops 2,' and you know how each UFC fight has a number? Well, we'll do No. 3 probably next year, and we'll just keep going until all the needs of our young, wonderful warriors and their families are taken care of."
"We determine the need, and so far, we've never failed in raising the money we need," he said. "So we just keep doing it until we have enough. We have about $13 or $14 million for research. We'd like to get to $20 million. And we'll do whatever we need to to get there."
Penick's Analysis: Saturday's event was a very well produced fund-raiser, and though it's slightly counter-intuitive to raise money for traumatic brain injury research with a sport that can cause damage to a competitor's brain, the UFC does a great job with these events. It was a fun night of fights, and helped do a lot of good for this very good cause. The video packages for the soldiers afflicted by TBI from their time in combat were heartbreaking, and that the UFC was able to help bring more money to the research of these injuries was a great thing. A third event in 2012 will be very welcome for all involved.

Beyonce Inspired By Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill For New Album
'I'm mixing every type of genre that I love,' singer says of follow-up to I Am ... Sasha Fierce.

Recently Beyoncé revealed that she wants to make her "own genre of music" for her next album. So when MTV News caught up with the singer at the New York screening of her concert special, "I Am ... World Tour," we asked her to clarify what exactly it is that she's creating in the studio.
"Well, I wouldn't say I'm inventing a new genre," she said. "I'm mixing every type of genre that I love and I'm inspired by every type of genre."
Beyoncé went on to say that people should throw any preconceived notions about the follow-up to 2008's I Am ... Sasha Fierce out the window. "I'm not in a box," she said. "It's not R&B. It's not typically pop. It's not rock. It's just everything I love all mixed together in my own little gumbo of music."
The singer says that quite a motley crew of musicians have inspired the album. "Definitely Fela Kuti, the Stylistics. How random, right?" she laughed. "So many people ... Lauryn Hill, Stevie Wonder, of course, Michael Jackson's Off the Wall ... all of those things I'm kind of mixing together."
For the album, Beyoncé has been hitting the studio with many of her usual collaborators including Ne-Yo, Sean Garrett and Jim Jonsin. And her mom, Tina Knowles, has given the tracks she's heard so far her seal of approval, saying, "Of course [I heard it]. It's amazing. It's so amazing!"

Paul Daley now has an opponent for his headlining bout on the upcoming BAMMA 5 card, as Fighter's Only reports that he will meet DEEP Welterweight Champion Yuya Shirai on the card.
It was reported on Thursday that Daley would headline the card with permission from Strikeforce, and that he'll then face the winner of the upcoming Strikeforce Welterweight Championship bout between Nick Diaz and Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos upon his return.
The former UFC welterweight made his Strikeforce debut in December, knocking Scott Smith out cold in the first round of their bout. He'll look to make it three straight wins since his release from the UFC when he faces Shirai.
The DEEP Welterweight Champion is 8-1 over his last nine fights, and holds a 20-8 record overall. His only loss in since 2008 was a submission loss to one-time UFC welterweight Jason High in the DREAM Welterweight Grand Prix.

Penick's Analysis: Daley represents a huge step up in competition for Shirai from what he's faced thus far in Japan, but at the same time he's not simply a can for Daley to blast through to keep himself busy. Shirai should be competitive in the fight, though I'd expect Daley to still get the win. This is going to be a very pro-Daley crowd in the UK, but this is an interesting matchup and should be a good fight for the fans.

Meet The New Superman: Henry Cavill
British actor known for 'The Tudors' was once attached to McG-helmed reboot.

He'll be flying into movie theaters in 2012, but who exactly is the newest Superman, Henry Cavill? The latest screen star to don the famed crimson cape has gained fame as a castmember of Showtime's period romp "The Tudors," and will hit the big screen in the upcoming Greek mythology epic "War of the Gods." But before he was tapped to play the iconic superhero, he was super close to portraying everyone from Twilight's Edward Cullen to James Bond to, ironically, Superman in another filmmaker's vision of the superhero.
He was up for Superman before
British screen star Cavill has been making a name for himself stateside as Sir Charles Brandon on the saucy historical drama "The Tudors," but he's come close to portraying Superman before.
MTV News caught up with Cavill back in 2009, and the then 25-year-old star told us he was set to zip through the sky as the Man of Steel in director McG's ("Terminator Salvation") take on the American icon. However, a shuffling of filmmakers resulted in Cavill getting dropped from the project, which eventually became the 2006 flick "Superman Returns."
"I was attached to the McG 'Superman' movie," Cavill told MTV News "Then Bryan Singer came on and took the helm and he made his movie.
"[The McG and Singer versions] were two different movies," Cavill explained. "So it wasn't so much of a sting because it was like, 'Oh, I got [the role],' and then the movie just didn't happen."
He also reportedly missed out on "Batman" ... and "The Green Lantern"
Cavill was rumored to be on the shortlist of leading men up to vanquish Gotham-area baddies in Christopher Nolan's "Batman" franchise, a role which eventually went to fellow Brit Christian Bale. Ryan Reynolds also reportedly beat out Cavill for the "Green Lantern" series.
He lost Edward Cullen to Robert Pattinson
Thanks to RPattz, Cavill missed out on one of the biggest movie franchises in recent years, "Twilight," even though he had some strong support in his corner. "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer once said that Cavill was her dream choice, but Mother Nature thwarted the casting.
"The only actor I've ever seen who I think could come close to pulling off Edward Cullen is Henry Cavill. Henry was Albert, the young son in 'The Count of Monte Cristo.' Can you see it? I know I can!" Meyer blogged in 2007. However, after some delays in development, Meyer conceded that Cavill had aged out of "Twilight" territory. "The most disappointing thing for me is losing my perfect Edward."
"By the time the movie came around, I didn't look right for the character," Cavill explained to MTV News in 2009, adding, "No one even called me or my agent."
... And he was almost James Bond
The actor also auditioned for the role of 007 in "Casino Royale," but instead Daniel Craig knocked back shaken martinis and coolly took out henchmen as the world's first blond Bond.
He may not have played Bond, but he does drive the character's famed car
In a 2009 interview with JustJared.com, Cavill opened up about his biggest splurge, which he said was an Aston Martin — the same sleek, high-end ride that's been associated with Bond.
"It was one of those things that just ended up happening, like, 'Right, okay, just treat yourself," he said. The star also dished that he enjoys video games like World of Warcraft and shows like "Dexter."

Kristen Stewart, Viggo Mortensen Short-Listed For 'Snow White' Roles
Stewart would play the lead role in the big-screen version of the fairy tale.

Kristen Stewart certainly has the looks to pull off playing Snow White on the big screen thanks to her dark hair, big eyes and milky complexion. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress is being courted to play the part in the big-screen adaptation of the beloved fairy tale, "Snow White and the Huntsman."
Viggo Mortensen ("The Road") and Academy Award winner Charlize Theron are also reportedly being considered for the roles of the huntsman and the evil queen.
THR further reports that other actresses on the list for the part include Riley Keough ("The Runaways"), Felicity Jones ("The Tempest"), Emily Browning (the forthcoming "Sleeping Beauty") and Alicia Vikander ("Beloved"). All of these actresses have screen-tested for the part. It's noted that Stewart has enough clout that she no longer has to screen-test for roles.
Casting for the film is well under way and Universal has been "making overtures" toward Stewart, especially during the last week. Rupert Sanders (who has done commercial and short films in the past) will direct.
Right now, Stewart is filming "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn," which is expected to wrap this spring. Fans are anticipating the chance to see Bella and Edward finally marry and Bella finally turn into a vampire in this flick. Her film "On the Road" is scheduled for release later this year. The film was adapted from the iconic Jack Kerouac novel of the same name, and also stars Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley and Kirsten Dunst.

Mitrione scores quick TKO at Fight for the Troops 2
On a football playoff weekend, former NFL player Matt Mitrione shined, TKOing Tim Hague in the co-main event of Fight for the Troops at Ft. Hood on Saturday.
Mitrione dropped Hague early in the second round, then finished the job with a straight left. Mitrione jumped on top of Hague and delivered hammer fists until referee Dan Miragliotta stopped the bout at 2:59 in the first round.
"I wanted to be a 260-lb. Dominick Cruz," Mitrione said of his quick movement throughout the bout, referring the the UFC bantamweight champion who is known for his outstanding movement. "I want to get tested. I want to fight. I want to get that piece of gold."
Mitrione has steadily improved since his time on the 10th season of "The Ultimate Fighter." He now has four straight wins in the UFC. Hague was fighting in the Octagon again after taking two fights outside of the UFC.

UFC NEWS: Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo's future in the lightweight division, though manager says move at least a year away

When UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo was blasting through opponents in the UFC's sister promotion World Extreme Cagefighting, many fans and writers wanted to see him make a move up to lightweight for super-fights inside the Octagon. Now that the WEC has been folded into the UFC, however, that call has been softened, and Aldo himself isn't quite ready for that move.
According to his manager Ed Soares, in comments made to MMAWeekly.com, Aldo is at least a year away from considering any move up in weight.
"I think that anything is possible. I think right now, he still has some work to be done at 145 pounds. He's a few fights away from being able to say he's cleaned out the division,? Soares said. "I think he's capable of doing that, and (moving to lightweight) is a potential thing that could happen."
"We could see that in a year, year and a half. He would definitely have to put on a little bit of weight and he would have to put on the weight gradually. I think it would be at least a year before we see him fight at 155 lbs."
Though they are looking to continue on at featherweight, Soares said Aldo would be willing to take a fight at lightweight anytime if offered. But regardless of when it happens, Soares believes that Aldo's future will be in the 155 lb. division.
Said Soares, "If he keeps performing and keeps putting on the types of performances that he has put on, I do believe that we will see Jose Aldo at lightweight."
